I really like this illustration. It was originally for my gender illustration class as a commentary on the behavior of young girls, but it turned into a more general statement about the mistreatment of people who are different.
My class thought it was a racism thing, but the black sheep (in my podunk, midwestern way of seeing things) is more of a universal symbol for the outsider.
Beautiful job on this piece, I really like the texture and and composition on this piece. I totally got the symbolism. It reminded me of that one disney movie where the black sheep wanted to win the blue ribbon, but everyone called him strange. I just love his expression here. It's subtle, but definitely there.
racism? didnt even think of it had you not told it.
havent they ever read childrens books or heard the saying "black sheep" nohh? ohwell.
Wonderful painting!
what kind of acrylics are you using? they are so vibrant!
I didn't see it as a remark on racism, I saw it more as the black sheep being a tomboy sheep girl of sorts. Doesn't put her bow in her hair like all the other girls, and ends up muddy and humiliated just because of some rough play... I think perhaps I am also projecting my own issues as a young girl on this image. ^^
