Artist's Comments

I've recently been doing installation murals around the city as a summer job. My first job was a large section of wall in a local Middle School--and this is my original concept for the mural. The PTSA for the school had originally approached me to create a fantasy mural, so I thought, "Sure. What's more over-the-top fantasy than dragons?" I thought the idea of having 8-foot-tall dragon heads on a wall sounded pretty cool. However, I live in a rather conservative town, for the most part, and once some of the student's parents heard about the proposed fantasy mural, they made a big fuss about it having religious or mystical content. I wound up painting a large mural of an underwater scene with dolphins and whatnot....which I'll post later. But I still think this is a cool concept. I tried to explain to them that each dragon is modeled after a particular cultural idea....from left to right: Germany, China, Japan, England, Mesopotamia. Some people just can't tolerate creativity.

I licked you while you were sleeping. It was a queer taste that only Humans can give. Perhaps, tonight, I will bring seasoning with me.

That is awesome work. Great compositional balance and how the color of the dragons gradients from one side of the piece to the other is very nice to the eye. I love your lineart style, the level of detail you put into it, and yet even with the high detail the whole thing keeps an air of being clean and streamlined. Great line weight variations. The look of weight and form in them, especially in the Japanese dragon's whiskers, is just wonderful.

Awesome work with depicting those 5 different types of dragon. It's a shame that those people were too closed-minded to allow this to become a mural. Thank you for sharing it with us here on DA.

This is very good. I like how you did the colors to make the other dragons contrast from each other. :)

Nice work hon. Now, only if I had a painting like that. I do like the spectrum that you have there. It adds a sense of broad diversity as well as numbers of dragons. Good job.

I'm sorry that you wern't able to paint it out as a mural but it's still a goreous piece of work. The design of each dragons looks wonderful and have each of his own uniqueness.

This is a beautiful mural. I really love how each dragon has a different body type and structure. Awesome detail work as well.
